The urban capital of Kerala and a dominant tourist city of India, Kochi is a delight in itself. Being a major centre for the trading of spices to the remaining parts of the world, Kochi is known popularly as the `Queen of the Arabian Sea`. Before the Portuguese chose Goa, Kochi was flourishing under their rule. Eventually it came under the British after being ruled by a series of empires. When India gained independence, Kochi became a part of the newly formed state of Kerala. The best time to visit Kochi is between the months of August and February.
